Basic Life Support

This course  is intended for health care providers and professionals who are expected to perform CPR as a part of their everyday job. Students will learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, adult, child and infant assessment techniques, the delivery of high-quality compressions, the use of both a pocket face mask and Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) for ventilations, how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and relieve choking.  The class also emphasizes team dynamics for more successful resuscitation attempts and indications for Narcan (naloxone hydrochloride) administration.  Students will also be expected to pass a skills and written exam.

Original Classes: 3 – 3.5 hours | Refresher Classes: 2 – 2.5 hours

Blended Learning: 1.5 -2 hours Online | 1hour In-Person Skills

Challenge: 0.5 hours written test | 1 Hour In-Person Skills


CPR For Dental Clinicians

This class is specially designed for dental offices who do not practice conscious sedation.  Students will learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, adult and child assessment techniques, the delivery of high-quality compressions, the use of both a pocket face mask and Bag-Valve-Mask (BVM) for ventilations, how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), relieve choking, and place a victim into the recovery position.  The class also emphasizes team dynamics for more successful resuscitation attempts.  There is no written exam for this class, however students must complete the psychomotor skills portion to the satisfaction of the instructor.  This class ends in certification through the Health and Safety Institute and is approved by the New York State Department of Education.

While this class focuses on adults and children, infant certification is also available at no additional charge.  Please request this during scheduling.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

This two – day course allows providers to enhance their skills in treating victims of cardiac arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. The course emphasizes a team approach to patient care and the use of treatment algorithms, while developing each individual’s role as a leader. The course culminates in successful completion of a written exam and running of a “mega-code” scenario.  Successful completion of the course results in American Heart Association certification.

** BLS certification and a strong knowledge of cardiac pharmacology, and ECG recognition are all prerequisites to the class.  Students must be able to complete the pre-course assessment with a 70% prior to the beginning of this class.  See ECG and Pharmacology below for additional training to help you pass this pre-course assessment.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) 

For healthcare providers who initiate and carry out care for critically ill children, this course uses a scenario-based, team approach to teach pediatric emergency management of patients approaching or already in respiratory or cardiac arrest.  The course also reviews CPR for children and infants and pediatric intubation skills. You will also learn how to treat pediatric patients beyond the first few minutes of emergency care and stabilizing and transporting patients in and out of the hospital.  Students are expected to pass a written exam and successfully manage an emergency scenario.  Successful completion of the course results in American Heart Association certification.

ECG and Pharmacology

This class is designed to help folks who need PALS / ACLS certification, but need help passing the pre-course assessment.  The class will help you read ECGs, recognize common cardiac arrhythmias and heart-blocks, and understand the utility of a 12 or 15-lead ECG.  In addition, you will learn how various pharmacological agents work to regulate the cardiac cycle, alter electrical conduction in the heart, control vascular resistance, prevent additional platelet aggregation and alleviate pain during a myocardial event.  Finally, you will apply treatment modalities to a variety of realistic scenarios. This class does not culminate in certification, but you will be more prepared to take on ACLS and PALS classes.

Drug Kit Training

The American Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry recommend that all dentist offices have emergency medications available in the event a patient or staff member has a medical emergency.  This class is designed to review the medications in your arsenal, their indications and contraindications, pharmacokinetics, proper dosing for adults and children, and how to administer each (IM, IN, PO, etc).  We also provide hands-on practice with drawing up and delivering injections from a vial.  Add this module onto a CPR class for additional savings. This class does not end in accredited certification, but it does leave you with confidence in using your drug kit properly.

In-Person Traditional Classroom

Usual Class Time: 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your comfort level.  


Medical Emergencies In The Office Environment

Prepare yourself and your office staff to respond to a medical emergency.  This class uses several scenarios to simulate the most common emergencies that occur in medical / dental offices.  The class will include a review of your emergency medications, team dynamics, procedures and protocols to follow, and debriefing.  Add this module onto a CPR or Drug Kit Training class for additional savings. This class does not end in certification but it will leave you with relief knowing that your team will be better able to handle a medical emergency in your office .
